What it is and where it is

Villa Monastero is an unmissable opportunity to immerse yourself in luxury. It is not a spa or a super hotel, but a house museum filled with the precious furnishings and works of art left over time by its owners. Added to this are refined architecture, an amazing garden and a privileged view of Lake Lecco. Walking through its 14 rooms, one gets lost in the beauty of its interiors and the serenity of the views visible from the windows.

Not to be missed: the botanical garden

The botanical garden is also a marvel: a long pathway with spectacular views of the lake, framed by loggias, balconies, arches, balustrades, vases and sculptures, and lush vegetation, including exotic ones, of palms, agaves, yuccas, dracaenas, cypresses, and Lebanon cedars. Magnificent is the citrus grove.

A bit of history

The Villa was founded as a women's monastery at the end of the 12th century. It was converted into a residence between 1609 and 1645, and from that period it retains the general structure and the loggia overlooking the lake. Over the centuries it passed from hand to hand, undergoing various transformations that gave it its present eclectic appearance, until the last owner turned it over to the state in 1939. It has been a house museum since 2003.
