There is always a street capable of condensing the essence of the city in which it is located. Via Garibaldi leads to the historic center of San Lorenzo in Campo. Its intimate atmosphere moves you and captures you with silence and charm, colors and history. From the arch to Piazza Padella is a romantic walk of rare beauty that leads to the historic buildings, and their enormous charm.
Why it is special
Away from traffic, it is a street dear to its inhabitants who live it with extreme care, filling it with the scents of small and characteristic homes, adorning it with the colors of flowers and never leaving it alone: here and there, in fact, there is always some affectionate and curious cat that seems to be waiting for you. And to top it off, the beauty of the historic center that opens up before you.
Not to be missed
The best time to stop by is definitely lunchtime, when the scents become more intense and captivating. Of course, you'll want to have comfortable shoes to run to a good restaurant, because I won't hide the fact that you'll be irresistibly gripped by hunger!
A bit of history
The charming little square at the end of the street is named after Mario Tiberini, a great tenor born in San Lorenzo in 1826.
Trivia
Thebell tower that towers above the Della Rovere Palace, because of its shape inspired the Laurentini, residents of San Lorenzo, who began calling it Battilarda. The name probably comes from the table, a cutting board where lard was once beaten. When oil was scarce, housewives would take a piece of lard and then with a cleaver-type knife beat it until the piece of lard was reduced to a mush that when placed in a pan over low heat would melt and replace the oil.
