Trekking from Cenadi to Serralta di San Vito
From the Fossa di Lupo pass we climb to the landmark peak of the northern sector of the Serre Calabresi
Where is

A mountain that presents itself
Cenadi is the starting point of the road that rises in hairpin bends toward the Fossa del Lupo pass (m 878), after which it descends toward Filadelfia, that is, toward the Gulf of Santa Eufemia and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The watershed is marked by the Serralta di San Vito (m 1023), the highest elevation of the northern sector of the Calabrian Serre.
Passage point of the great Apennine trek.
Halfway up the ascent, at Ponticelle, the road crosses the path of Sentiero Italia, the great hiking route that traverses the entire peninsula, here on the 12th stage between San Vito allo Ionio and Girifalco. The dense beech forest opens around a pretty little lake. The area offers hikers not only the facilities for a pleasant rest, but also the Bosco Sospeso adventure park with a series of acrobatic routes through the trees.
The vestiges of a historic activity in the Calabrian mountains.
In the locality of Minghiozzo, at about 800 meters, among chestnut and beech trees, is the refuge of the same name , a reference point for further excursions. The whole area was once involved in forestry activities, including charcoal production, which was an important item in the local economy.
Snow when there was no idea of refrigerators yet
Another image that comes from the past is that of mules coming down from the mountain carrying baskets filled with snow to be used in food preservation. Reminiscent of this on the mountain remain the neviere, depressions in the ground where it was accumulated, protected by a layer of leaves and ferns.
