SHARRYLAND
San Biagio della Cima, in the footsteps of Francesco Biamonti
An exceptional narrator for an unforgettable landscape
Where is
What it is and where it is
The journey begins and ends here, in San Biagio della Cima, a village in the immediate western hinterland, behind Vallecrosia, in the valley of the Verbone stream. We arrive at sunset, when the light of the colors of the buildings fades and the first star of the evening can be seen in the sky. Around us a continuous croaking near the water cisterns that here, in the many agricultural terraces, constitute a different and yet essential historical-cultural and landscape heritage.
Why it is special
Every morning we pass through the typical carruggi from the upper part of the village to the base of the historic center, where the legendary and tireless van awaits us for our daily itineraries. One of these mornings, we pause on the colonnade in front of the church and read an inscription that reads, "The old people, still numerous, were all gathered under a portico. The square was empty." A lady, outside the front door in the company of her fat cat, looks at us curiously. We smile at her. "Francesco Biamonti is the author," she says, informing us about "Biamonti Park."
Not to be missed
As much as the name suggests vast green spaces, Biamonti Park is more of an interactive itinerary that enhances the rural landscape through the voice of the writer. To our surprise, the route intersects with our daily ups and downs through the streets of the historic village center. Among the places touched by the project is an entire olive grove dedicated to the writer who, although he traveled, never forgot his origins: "I love roots in the earth, but also the sky and cosmopolitanism."
Curiosity
The association "Friends of Francesco Biamonti" organizes annually in November the event "D'autunno Francesco": a day entirely dedicated to the author who, here, made history. With his pen, he was one of the authors who best represented Western Liguria. Today, his memory brings the entire village back to life and attracts the most sensitive, curious visitor, interested in slow life, the nuances of colors, traditional flavors, and the history of a simple village.
