What it is and where it is
The Pink Run is a non-competitive charity run held annually in Padua on the first weekend in May, starting in Prato della Valle. All women are invited to participate in the event: their registration fee will be donated to selected NGOs.
Why it's special
It is special, period. The atmosphere during the event is incredible. Thousands of women come together, some in groups, some individually, and know that they will have fun, get tired and donate to important causes. The route is specially designed to bring Padua's historic center and its beauty to life. So many associations gather in the most beautiful square in the world to make themselves known and party together.
Not to be missed
The Saturday nightPink Party hosts different artists every year and enlivens the square. All the Associations benefiting from previous editions and many others are present with their stands and initiatives. The area's Sports Associations offer everyone (men and women) the chance to try a variety of sports. The food area, run by the very nice volunteers, is available throughout the weekend. To top it off and not to forget anyone, there is always a magnificent children's area where sports for the little ones and a thousand creative activities are promoted.
A bit of history
Pink Run was born in 2010 in Maserà di Padova with the dual purpose of bringing women closer to the world of running (at the time it was not as widespread as it is today) and donating money and visibility to non-profit organizations related to women and children. It was the first event of its kind in Europe and to this day is a great success.
Since 2015 the Pink Run has moved to Padua, to one of the most beautiful squares in the world, Prato della Valle. This was because by then the participants and their following made it impossible to hold it in a small town. If you read the history on the official website you can see, year by year, the number of participants, the beneficiaries and the amount donated. To give an idea of the wonderful evolution it is enough to remember that in the 2010 edition (the first) there were more than 600 participants and 3600€ were donated; in the 2018 edition there were as many as 6941 participants, for a total donation of 65,000€.
Trivia
It sounds unbelievable, but the entire event is run exclusively by volunteers. In the previous month, thanks to the intense social activity, it is possible to follow the evolution of the organization and especially the exhilarating activity of preparing the race packs. Every year, the organizers make a point of reminding us that anyone who wants to help is welcome during the long evenings of preparation. Pizza, desserts and lots of laughs are included in the package!
