In Castiglione in Teverina, along the Wine Route.

Where is Muvis
Between the Tiber River and Lake Bolsena, along the Strada del Vino, we encounter Castiglione in Teverina, an ancient and charming village. Here a stop at MUVIS, Museum of Wine and Agri-food Sciences, is a must. The museum is housed in what were once the grand cellars of Count Vaselli, esteemed producer from 1942 to 1994. Today, with its underground floors, Muvis is the largest wine museum in Europe. Quite a record, considering there are at least 250 of them!
Why it is special
We delve "into the soul of wine" and human history among rooms with evocative names: the Hall of Reflections and Transparencies, the Hall of the Map, the Hall of Memory, the Hall of Expeditions... Each offers us a different point of view: wine in the art world, in local traditions, in work in the fields, in myths and advertising... We are particularly struck by the barrels and vats and the relics of industrial archaeology, such as concrete fermentation tanks. But the best is yet to come...
Not to be missed: the "cathedral"
At the end of the path, in the bowels of the earth, a gloomy tunnel leads into a vast underground hall, so large that it deserves the name "cathedral." Here even the barrels are colossal and more than 3 meters in diameter!
An added touch: tastings
We get it: this is not just an ethnographic museum, but an experience! And of course, after this journey into the world of wine, there will be no shortage of opportunities to taste fine local wines, accompanied by tasty appetizers.
