SHARRYLAND
Where is
What it is and where it is
The Carlo Scarpa Museum of Rarities in Monselice has been located inside the Cini Castle since 2007. It is a single room, not very large, that collects striking objects. On the left are glass artifacts, on the right brass objects and other metals, while the center of the space is occupied by a table with its chairs. On the back wall hangs a work that dominates the room from above, synthesizing and harmonizing the forms and colors present. There are no explanatory plaques; it is the objects themselves that tell their story and that of their creator, Carlo Scarpa.
Why it is special
This name may sound more or less familiar to those who are not very familiar with the world of art and, especially, architecture, but for experts in the field, Carlo Scarpa is one of the sacred monsters of the 20th century. In the 1970s a French art historian wrote of him, "Many of those who travel in Italy know him without knowing it." And it is true: his grandeur lies in making even seemingly simple things sublime. Here, in a small room, we take a journey through Carlo Scarpa's minor works, where each object tells a story of awe, wonder, and perfection.
Not to be missed
Here one comes into contact with works from Scarpa's early period, when he was still working in the glassworks of Venice. One moves among glass, murrine and silverware of his own design and made by the artisans of the Cappellin e C. and Venini glassworks between the 1920s and 1940s and by the Rossi and Arcandi firm in 1978, but some study models, made of metal and other materials, for the development of the architect's sculptures and designs can also be observed.
Curiosities
Carlo Scarpa's Rarities converged at the castle thanks to a project strongly supported by Monselicean Aldo Businaro, a patron and friend of the architect.
