The Sabina Oil Museum is located inside Palazzo Perelli, which is also the municipal seat of Castelnuovo di Farfa. Here you enter a world of suggestions and emotions thanks to the works of three artists who tell the story of olive trees and oil through their art. Air, water, earth, light and sound contribute to tell what the olive tree is and what oil is for a community that has placed it at the center of the social and cultural life of the area.

The villageof Castelnuovo di Farfa is an enchanted corner of Sabina, a hamlet of medieval origin just a few kilometers from Rome. After visiting Palazzo Perelli, the Sabina Oil Museum trail comes out into the street, taking you into the village and the surrounding countryside. Bring then enjoy discovering other places fundamental to village life: the millstone, the bakery, an 18th-century oil mill, and the church of San Donato. But there's more: on some occasions the museum includes oil tastings in the tours. It is said that the best is a nice slice of bread with a drizzle of oil on top-absolutely not to be missed!
A bit of history
Sabina oil has an ancient history, dating back more than two thousand years. Already the Romans appreciated the oil produced in these lands, famous for its quality and used not only for food, but also for religious rituals and as a precious ointment. Sabina became such an important center of production that the oil produced here reached Rome and was exported throughout the Empire. The museum preserves traces of this long history, showing the tools used over the centuries.
