Montefeltro, what to see along the Foglia River
Following the course of a river is a great way to encounter an area! Today, sitting comfortably on the banks of Mercatale Lake (just a half-hour drive from Urbino) we decide to follow the Foglia River, which right here, harnessed by a dam, becomes a lake. Upstream or downstream? A tough choice! The Foglia River originates in Tuscany on the Alpe della Luna at about 1,000 m.a.s.l. and runs through the Marche region for 90 km to Pesaro. Mercatale Lake is right in the middle. It's decided: we will follow the river back to its source, through Montefeltro and the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Regional Nature Park. And I have a feeling we will indulge in many "digressions" along the way....
