Sardinia's hinterland, beauty and magic
Sardinia enchants with its gentle sea and beautiful beaches, but how wonderful it is to set out to discover its hinterland! Its wild and ancestral nature should be explored quietly, on a journey that leads to the roots of the history of this magical island.
Departure from Sedilo
We are in Sedilo, in the province of Oristano. It is here that the Ispiluncas archaeological trail guides us to several archaeological sites, in a pleasant medium-intensity walk.
The nuraghe Iloi
The first very important site we encounter is the archaeological area of Iloi (upstream), with its beautiful complex nuraghe that visually dominates the surrounding area and the two tombs of the giants below. The large stones, mysterious structures that are still solid, and the view from here make it difficult to get back on track, but it's time to move on.
The domus de janas and Serra Linta
We continue the walk to the domus de janas necropolis, which with its more than 30 tombs is one of the largest in Sardinia. Following the signs for Serra Linta we will end the hike on the wild shores of Lake Omodeo, moving by car or on foot along a path that can be walked in about 30 minutes. The ancient village of Serra Linta consisted of about twenty dwelling structures, covered an area of about forty-five hectares, and was situated on the shores of the lake.
On the shores of Lake Omodeo
After all these emotions, it is time to reconnect with the present, and the wonderful nature that surrounds us. We approach the lake by driving along a dirt road. Here we encounter a gate bordering a pasture, we can open and close it behind us. It is important to respect this place and the animals that graze there freely: both the flocks and the sheepdogs are used to people passing by, but if we travel with our animals it is best to keep them on a leash for safety. Another very important thing: let's take away our garbage: it is a fundamental gesture to safeguard the archaic beauty of these places guarded by Mother Nature.
