Where is
What it is and where it is
In the enchanting setting of Lombardy, where Brianza intertwines with Vallassina, the Vallategna Waterfall emerges. Surrounded by lush forests, this waterfall, fed by the Foce stream, plunges with an impressive drop of more than 30 meters into the Lambro below.
Why it's special: a wonder between Brianza and Vallassina
The Vallassina Waterfall is a natural jewel that has always played the role of guardian, strikingly delineating the boundary between two lands steeped in history and tradition: Brianza and Vallassina. Illustrious travelers who have passed through these lands have consistently emphasized the exceptional beauty of this place, giving it fame since times past. But locals know that beauty is not its only quality: the power of water has driven the local economy, and the nature surrounding the waterfall gives peace to those who come to visit.
A bit of history: how much water moved the economy
Above the waterfall, in Cranno, two old buildings tell a significant chapter in local history. The former Verza spinning mill, where silk was spun by harnessing the power of the Foce River, stands as a silent witness to a bygone era. The wheels that spun by the power of the water tell of days when the waterfall was not only a sight for the eyes, but also a valuable resource for local industry. Next to the spinning wheel, a small house housed the workers who came from far and wide to contribute to the art of silk making. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the Verza spinning mill, which found new life downstream of the waterfall in the municipality of Canzo, continuing to weave the link between local history and the majesty of nature.
Curiosity: development projects for the area
Currently, a project to redevelop the waterfall area is underway, envisioning the creation of a large green area for public use. This intervention aims to preserve and enhance not only the natural beauty of the place, but also to provide a regenerating space for the local community and visitors, thus helping to strengthen the link between the waters of the Foce and the history of this land. The Vallategna Waterfall is thus confirmed not only as a historical symbol, but also as a green oasis destined for a future of sharing and contemplation.
