SHARRYLAND
Where is
What is and where is Lake Segrino.
Welcome to a magical adventure among the evocative lands of the Larian Triangle, where Lake Segrino stands like a jewel set between the towns of Canzo, Eupilio and Longone. This strip of paradise, with its marshland of mysterious charm, catapults us to a time when nature itself was considered sacred, a bridge between heaven and earth according to ancient Gallic beliefs.
A bit of history
The history of this place is intertwined with a respect for the earth, accentuated by the discovery of a pre-Christian necropolis in the municipality of Canzo. These details, combined with the presence of underground springs and the Roggia Molinara that dances through the hamlets of Carella, Corneno and Penzano di Eupilio, transport us on a journey through time, among ancient mills and wash houses that tell stories of a vibrant past. Water, a vital element, is the common thread in this story. The pilings that emerge from Lake Segrino testify to the ancient wisdom of those who chose this place as their home, where life could flourish in harmony with nature.
Why it is special
The beautiful views of the lake are enhanced by the wonders found in its surroundings. Like Eupilio, which, with its Mariaghella Stream and the Acquate Road, reveals a part of its soul to us. It tells of how the inhabitants have shaped nature by diverting streams and creating roads leading to picturesque locations such as Cornizzolo. Or again, the Sentierone, which connects Canzo and Eupilio, reveals the intriguing chapter of local smugglers, who ploughed through woods and streams to bring forbidden goods to the Milan of yesteryear. A tale of cunning and resourcefulness that is lost among mountain paths.
Not to be missed
Among the marsh reeds of Lake Segrino, the feast of San Zeno April becomes an opportunity to create trellises for raising silkworms, an ancient tradition that today gives way to a nature reserve, welcoming numerous resident and migratory birds. This nature has also enchanted great writers who have embraced the beauty of the Larian Triangle. From Fogazzaro to Ghislanzoni, from Gadda to Nievo, these luminaries found the shores of the lake an unparalleled source of inspiration, transforming their experiences into immortal masterpieces.
Trivia
The lake's name comes from the Celtic Sĕgā-rīnŏ-s and means "the brook of respect." Inhabited since ancient times and frequented by artists, Lake Segrino has become home to legends of sleeping carters and paintings on chapel facades. And this is exactly how it invites us to dive into its waters, walk its paths and discover a world that unites history, art and nature in an unbreakable embrace. An enchanting journey that reveals to us the hidden beauty of this corner of Lombardy.
