Beech forest of Canfaito
An ancient beech forest in which to get lost and admire nature
Where is
What it is and where it is
A wonderful beech forest located on the side of Mount San Vicino, in the province of Macerata. Crossed by several trails, it is a beautiful place, great for spending a day in nature or just breathing in the woods for a few hours.
Why it is special
The atmosphere of the beech forest is almost magical. Full of ancient trees and small Apennine fauna, it is the perfect place to get in touch with nature and enjoy it to the fullest.
Don't miss
During the summertime, the beech forest is traversed at dusk by groups of Marche cows, which return from their pastures through it. Since they are used to people, it is possible to remain in the beech forest at the time of their passage, taking the opportunity to admire them in all their majesty. Be careful, however, not to annoy them by trying to touch or chase them.
A bit of history
The beech forest is home to very old trees, some of which are more than 400 years old. Now part of the area's natural heritage, these trees have been able to thrive for so long because these places were used as shelter from the hot summer sun by shepherds.
Trivia
The beech forest is located just a few minutes from Elcito, a particular place called "The Tibet of the Marches." If you are in the area a visit is a must!
