Ecomuseum locality Orimento
Generosa Cave artifacts tell 60,000 years of Intelvi Valley history
Where is
What it is and where it is
The Ecomuseum in Orimento locality in the municipality of Centro Valle Intelvi, houses the permanent exhibition of those artifacts that were found inside the not-so-distant Caverna Generosa, or Bear Cave, during the 20 years of excavations started in the 2000s and conducted by the University of Milan.
Why it is special
Fossil remains and casts allow us to discover what Ursus Spelaeus, or a species of bear that went extinct about 20,000 years ago, looked like. But there are also remains related to the Neanderthal man who lived in these places. Taking advantage of the guided tour will allow you to move among these finds by taking a real journey into the oldest history of the Intelvi Valley.
Not to be missed
In the museum's lecture hall it is possible to participate in cultural events, scheduled during the opening season, and in educational and workshop activities aimed at families with children, schools, tourists, and anyone with a desire to discover the naturalistic, historical, and cultural heritage of the area.
Curiosities
For the most enthusiasts, it is possible to go and visit the cave itself where the remains were found: between the guided tour in the Bear Cave and the augmented reality experience, you will find yourself completely immersed in prehistory. So much for Jurassic Park!
