U Passiu Santu

In the Medieval Village of Buccheri, Holy Week is a highly anticipated event. From Palm Sunday to Holy Easter Sunday, the Sacred Performances take place involving about a hundred actors and extras in costume, who recite in rhyming Sicilian dialect all the events, from Christ's entry into Jerusalem, to the Stations of the Cross on Friday, to the prayers of the waiting Saturday, up to the Resurrection. Everything is carried out in the smallest details, candles, lights, flowers, the Calvary hill, the procession; for the faithful as well as for the visitor it is a meditative and unique experience.
