Saint Sebastian Martyr of Melilli
The festival in honor of the patron saint
In a nutshell
Festivities in honor of St. Sebastian are held annually on May 3 and 4; on the evening of May 3 the silver reliquary-an arm holding an arrow-is carried in procession by the faithful who have come to the town of Melilli from neighboring towns.
The following day the Holy Mass is held, followed by the arrival of the "Nuri" of Melilli; men, women and children dressed in white, with a red sash on their shoulders and hips and a kerchief on their heads. Only towards evening is the simulacrum of St. Sebastian carried in procession through the streets of the historic center by the "Nuri."
