In a nutshell
Historically known as the Feast of the Holy Cross, the "Tataratà" festival is an unmissable and unique event held in the beautiful village of Casteltermini, in the province of Agrigento. According to legend, the disputed "cross" is honored and celebrated in early May with a long armed dance called "tataratà" to evoke the rhythm of the drums that marks the time of the dispute. Subsequently, the historical festival involving many local figures was born.
The festival kicks off with the traditional roll of drums as the four "classes" enter the village: citizens Celibi, Pecorai, Borgesi and Real Maestranza. The highlight of the festival is Sunday where the classes gather for Mass and then continue with the festivities, traditional dance and the blessing of the Palii. The event is deeply felt by the local community and attracts curious, enthusiasts and tourists to Casteltermini.
