Vertuti Festival in Paganico Sabino
In a village where time seems to stand still, Paganico Sabino, May 1 is celebrated with the "Calendimaggio" and the "Sagra dei Vertuti"
In a nutshell
The star of the festival is a legume and cereal soup with beans, chickpeas, broad beans, wheat and corn, flavored with wild thyme leaves and seasoned with Sabina olive oil, to be enjoyed along with macaroni with tomato sauce, sausages, bruschetta and a good glass of wine in the day care center with places covered by spacious marquees.
The festival is preceded by an ancient pagan rite that marks the return to life and rebirth, the "Calendimaggio," the typical recurrence of the peasant tradition that in past centuries greeted the arrival of the good season after the harsh winter, which is still renewed in this characteristic town of the Turano Valley.
