Pomposia Imperialis Abbatia in Codigoro
Pomposa Abbey returns to its splendor
In a nutshell
The Pomposia Imperialis Abbatia in Codigoro is a relatively young historical reenactment-it began in 2002-but within a very few years it has become one of the most anticipated events in the Ferrara town.
During the event, the visit of Emperor Otto III to Pomposa and the imperial privileges granted to the Abbey are re-enacted. Each year a theme is established dedicated to an event or character that made Pomposa Abbey famous.
The festivities begin with a parade in period costumes, and military encampments, peasant villages and scenes of daily monastic life are recreated.
Flag-waving and archery performances, medieval markets, food stations selling traditional products and dishes and even musical concerts also enliven the festival.
