Lombards on the Via Micaelica
Historical re-enactment of the Lombards in Sannio in the picturesque setting of the ancient village of Molinara
In a nutshell
The August reenactment will reconstruct four historical events: the first, in 663, when the Bishop of Benevento St. Barbato went to Monte Sant'Angelo on the Gargano to take possession of the Diocese of Siponto, assigned to him by the Duke of Benevento Romuald I.
The second, in about 667, when the Duke of Benevento Romuald I went on pilgrimage to the Gargano and decided to finance the construction of the first shrine.
The third, in 992, when the princes of Benevento (Pandulf II and his son Landulf IV, associated with the throne in 987) at the request of their loyal Count Roffredo, confirmed the church of Molinara to Leo Abbot of St. Modest.
Finally, in 999, when Otto III visited St. Michael on the Gargano and probably stopped at Molinara.
Thus, Lombard and imperial representatives will be selected to compete in a historical archery tournament, a tournament of arms in armor, a javelin throwing tournament, and an axe throwing tournament.
