The Varia of Palmi
One of the most important religious festivals in Calabria!
In a nutshell
This festival is celebrated on the last Sunday in August and is dedicated to Mary Most Holy of the Holy Letter, the patron saint of the city. It is designed to represent the Assumption of the Virgin into heaven through a large votive cart, designed in 1900 by Giuseppe Militano, carried strictly on the shoulders of 200 volunteers called "'mbuttaturi."
In 2013 the Varia of Palmi was included in the oral and intangible heritage of humanity by UNESCO, encompassing multiple interests: cultural, artistic, religious, food and wine.
