In a nutshell
In Camaiore every three years on Good Friday there is a very heartfelt celebration by the inhabitants, the Triennial of the Dead Jesus. This is an ancient tradition that dates back to the seventeenth century, when the Confraternity of the Holy Trinity purchased the Statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, which was carried in procession to the Church of St. Vincent-now known as the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.
On this occasion, a procession is held, starting right from the church of Our Lady of Sorrows, through the streets of Camaiore illuminated by thousands of oil lamps that decorate the facades of the houses in the village, creating an evocative and evocative atmosphere that reflects the faith and feelings of the faithful in the procession.
The oil lamps, known as "cincindellori," are handcrafted by the Confraternity of the Holy Trinity, Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Vincent.
The "cincindellori"-made with a small wire frame in a circular shape, four pieces of cork and a wick with red and white threads-are distributed to the people of Camaiore and placed inside glasses, which are then filled half with water and one-third with olive oil.
