Bagnun Festival in Riva Trigoso
A dish with a Mediterranean flavor
In a nutshell
"Bagnun di acciughe" is one of the typical dishes of Sestri Levante and in particular of the hamlet of Riva Trigoso. It is a fish soup made with anchovies and tomato, which is accompanied by "gallette del marinaio," the ancient bread eaten by Genoese sailors.
Every year since 1960, the Bagnun festival has been held on the penultimate weekend of July, during which this traditional dish made from the poor fish par excellence is celebrated. The festival lasts three days between musical performances, a craft market, fireworks and tastings of other typical dishes.
But the most important day is Saturday, when the distribution of generous portions of Bagnun to citizens and other guests takes place.
