In a nutshell
In Santa Giusta since 1978 the traditional "Regatta de is fastosi" has been held in August, a popular event named after the primitive Sardinian boats that were used by the Nuragic, Phoenician and Roman populations.
The boats were made using marsh hay - thifa or "fenu" now protected by the region - which was woven in such a way as to obtain a pointed prow and a truncated stern; creating a boat about 4 meters long.
Originally, a long pole - "su cantoni" - was used to steer these particular boats, which was placed on the bottom of the pond to propel the boat along the surface of the water.
To celebrate this ancient tradition, the municipality of Santa Giusta organizes an annual regatta on the shores of the lagoon, which takes place precisely by using and then reconstructing this particular boat, giving rise to an event of high historical and craftsmanship value guarded perfectly by the inhabitants.
