The Feast of the Lair in Campocavallo
Wheat ears become real works of art
In a nutshell
Campocavallo (hamlet of Osimo) celebrates peasant culture by staging a folkloric parade of architectural scale reproductions made entirely from ears of corn. It is called Covo (Cóu in dialect), the protagonist of the festival, which is held on the first Sunday of August in the town of Osimo, as thanksgiving for the wheat harvest, for which the village and neighboring towns are known.
Each year a religious theme is established to guide the creation of the work, which depicts a symbol of the Marian faith, such as churches, shrines or other places of worship highlighting a manual skill and ritual rooted in two centuries. It is an event that is then enlivened with theatrical performances, popular games and dances, and a number of food stands with which local products are enhanced. The lair is carried in procession through the streets of the village at the end of the Solemn Holy Mass and reaches the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows.
