In a nutshell
Every year on the first weekend of September, the "Corsa degli Scalzi," a procession in honor of San Salvatore di Sinis, is celebrated in Cabras.
The procession-which begins on the first Saturday of September and ends the following day-recalls the brave defense of the saint's statue in 1619 against an invasion by the Moors.
The name of the event is due to the particular and evocative way in which the procession is carried out, which is done by a group of young people - dressed in a white habit and called "Is Curridoris" - who run barefoot for about 7 kilometers carrying the statue of the Saint from the church of Santa Maria Assunta to the Sanctuary of the village of "Muristenes."
On Sunday a new procession takes place along the streets of the village and at the end of the Holy Mass, "Is Curridoris" bring the simulacrum back to the church in Cabras. Other activities and side events also conclude the festive atmosphere.
