In a nutshell
Italy is full of villages where the classic living nativity scene is held at Christmas time, involving most of the inhabitants, but the one that has been organized in Genga every year since 1981 is truly unique.
The Genga nativity scene, first desired by Don Giuseppe Fedeli, is by extension the largest in the world. It is set up inside the Frasassi Gorge dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, covering an area of about 30,000 square meters.
This sacred re-enactment is staged in an evocative natural setting in front of Valadier's temple, taking everyone on a journey back in time with figures impersonating blacksmiths, shoemakers, sculptors and more. A strongly evocative and spiritual setting that - accompanied by lights and sounds - leads all the way into the karst cavity of the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin, where the Nativity is staged.
