The Banner of Arpino

The "Gonfalone" is a folkloric re-enactment involving the districts and contrade of Arpino in historical games and contests. The event lasts three days, during which the village is immersed in ancient and festive atmospheres. The procession in historical costumes of the Ciociara tradition kicks off the festivities in the historic center with folk songs, re-enactments of ancient crafts and deep traditions. Ancient scents waft in and out of the city walls with festivals and tastings of Ciociaria dishes, whose recipes are jealously guarded. The most eagerly awaited moment is the start of the Palio dei quartieri, consisting of no less than six competitions, including the "Cannata": the women of the town run wearing on their heads the "cannata," a terra cotta container containing water, the symbol of the town.
