Joust of the Quintana of Foligno

This very old event, first documented in 1448, is divided between the "Challenge," scheduled for the second Saturday in June at night, and the "Rematch" on the second Sunday in September during the daytime. There are 10 jousting knights representing the various districts of the city. Launched at a gallop on a steed, they must thread a series of rings with a lance that gradually become smaller. This event is special because it is also publicized by numerous side events and the Historical Pageant parade in which more than 600 figures in rich 17th-century costumes go through the streets of downtown Foligno the evening before the tenzone.
