Feast of St. Anthony the Abbot
Feast in honor of the patron saint of Zafferana Etnea
In a nutshell
Each year the festivities in honor of St. Anthony Abbot begin on Jan. 16 with a pre-holiday Holy Mass.
The feast day, Jan. 17, is heralded by festive pealing and the firing of cannon shots at noon, followed by several Masses in honor of the saint. At the end of the evening Mass, "cuddureddi," traditional bread doughnuts blessed by the priest, are distributed.
The celebration ends with the firing of fireworks in Umberto Square.
