Festival of the Chestnut of Vallerano DOP

The chestnut is the autumn fruit par excellence, and the one from Vallerano is also DOP. In fact, a festival is held here where this fruit is the undisputed protagonist, sold in its different forms. This is one of the best-known events in Tuscia, which offers some gastronomic routes to learn about the characteristics of the product. The streets of the village are invaded by the ancient fragrances of roasted chestnuts, which are also barbecued in a huge pan in the center of the Piazza della Repubblica and distributed to those present. During the festival, real tours are offered to discover the chestnuts of Vallerano DOP, but also the beautiful views of the village. In addition, the event is enriched with folk music concerts, local craft markets and historical costumed parades. Vallerano's wine cellars, dug directly into the tufa rock, are also set up to allow for tasty tastings of the village's traditional dishes and products. Not only the Castagna di Vallerano DOP: here you can taste other excellent products such as the marrone and the hazelnut, with which the delicious tozzetti are prepared.
