Solopaca Grape Festival
Talking about Solopaca without thinking about grapes, wine, and the grape festival is practically impossible
In a nutshell
Its origin dates back to the 1700s when the local Confraternity celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows by collecting gifts, mainly grapes, which were transported on decorated wagons and then sold in a public auction. Having fallen into desuetude for a long period of time, the event was revived in 1979 and continues uninterrupted to this day.
A fundamental element are the allegorical floats, small works of art, made from grapes by the talented cart-masters, who every year, with imagination, skill and creativity manage to compose motifs, create scenes, interpret subjects and themes to be proposed to the public, during the parade, on the second Sunday of September each year. The Solopaca grape floats are an admirable example of how a natural element, the grape, in the skilled hands of artisan artists becomes language, poetry, creativity culture. Grapes are the real protagonist, their grapes are patiently glued one by one after careful selection by size and color shade to achieve the polychrome effect.
