City Museums of Piandimeleto
It is a journey through the ages, the one you face among the rooms of the Conti Oliva Castle, in search of the soul of Montefeltro
Where is
What it is and where it is
The Civic Museums of Piandimeleto have been installed in an exceptional place: the Conti Oliva Castle. What for centuries was first a defensive center and then a noble residence, today takes up these two souls and combines them, making itself a bulwark and worthy residence of the millenary history of the Montefeltro territory. In fact, collections of various kinds are housed here : from the Museum of Earth Sciences to the Museum of Heraldry, passing through the Museum of Peasant Labor and concluding with the Herbarium of the Marche.
Why it is special
The concentration of such diverse collections in one building allows the visitor to explore in 360 degrees the territories, customs and traditions that have forged the culture of the Marche. In the Museum of Heraldry, one will explore the atmosphere of noble lineages, the exploits of aristocratic families and their contentions. In the Museum of Peasant Labor, we go to the other extreme of the society of the past: the people, particularly the rural people. The Science Museum and the Herbarium, on the other hand, tell us about all that is context: the soil, its evolution and its expression and interaction with man through plants and herbs.
Not to be missed
The present also finds its place in the castle: at the entrance, you will find to welcome you "Orlando's Horse," an iron sculpture by Pesaro master Terenzio Pedini. Joining the people who lived patiently by hard work, Pedini does not melt the metals with which he creates his works, preferring to work them hot with a mallet, and then cold by coining. The individual parts are then assembled by electric welding. The horse is part of a donation of works by the Artist to the village, which are displayed in a Permanent Exhibition that further enriches the village's cultural heritage.
A bit of history
An essential character at the Civic Museums of Piandimeleto is Professor Renzo Pieruccini. A prolific professor and scholar of geology and environmental sciences, it was he who, with a bequest including some 4,000 samples including rocks, minerals and fossils, made it possible to establish the Museum of Earth Sciences. Mention should also be made of all the citizens who donated family objects related to work and rural life so that they could be preserved at the Piandimeleto Museum of Peasant Labor, thus also consigning them to collective memory.
Curiosities
Do not be fooled by the ancient walls of the castle, much less by the topics covered. The past that is so strong in this place does not remain closed in on itself, but opens up to the modern world. Don't believe it? Then know that the Museum of Peasant Labor is brought to life by the project "The Museum of All and for All." Seven video guides present its collections in LIS, with English subtitles and music, to meet the needs of as many people as possible. For the more tech-savvy, there are also three smartphone-readable panels and three audio-only files.
