Away from the crowds, away from traffic, immersed in a timeless village on the Monti di Varenna to discover the history and traditions of the area, without forgetting the stunning views of Lago di Como. We will discover the northernmost olive groves in Europe, unexpected places dedicated to reading and book exchanges, the warmth of the inhabitants of the small village, and a bench that tells stories of people and places. We will learn about the geological history of Lago di Como and the agricultural past of a village tied to traditions but oriented towards the present. Partly along the Sentiero del Viandante (also walked by Leonardo) and partly on less touristy paths, we will walk through olive groves, woods, and villages, always with a view of the lake. There is an opportunity to taste local oil on request and depending on supplier availability. If you wish, you can bring a book to exchange at the pollibreria and a sweet thought for those who will open the pollibreria and the museum collection of ancient agricultural tools. General program:

9:30 am meeting at the Varenna train station;
9:45 am start of the loop hike on the Monti di Varenna;
lunch in nature at the village;
visit to the collection of ancient agricultural tools;
sharing knowledge and chatting and exchanging books;
possible oil tasting on request and depending on availability;
return to Varenna in time for trains to Milan and Lecco around 5 pm.

The hike is suitable for adults and families with teenagers in good physical condition and fitness, as well as used to mountain walking, considering the altitude difference and length of the route. The hike is not suitable for people with heart, respiratory, postural, muscle problems or significant overweight; or who have recently undergone surgery or are under significant medication; conditions that must be communicated to the guide in advance to assess feasibility. Accident insurance is not included in the fee.
